MICROORC develops packaging solutions that complement microbial strategies by improving barrier properties, enhancing recyclability, and enabling active protection. The project tests mono-material trays, low-impact vacuum systems, and bio-based coatings with antimicrobial fermentates to slow spoilage and moisture loss. These systems are tailored to the unique characteristics of chicken, salmon, and plant-based foods, with trials demonstrating their technical feasibility and impact on shelf life. By aligning packaging design with microbiome-based preservation, MICROORC bridges environmental and food quality goals, offering holistic innovations for waste reduction.
