Three days of collaboration, fruitful discussions and planning for the final year of MICROORC!
Last week, the MICROORC consortium gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, for its 2026 General Assembly, kindly hosted by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden on 13–15 October.
Over three days, partners shared the latest project developments across three key areas: microbiome-based solutions for food quality and safety, innovative approaches to shelf-life prediction and smart labelling, and sustainable food packaging.
Throughout the three days, the atmosphere was open and collaborative, encouraging fruitful discussions both during the technical presentations and the interactive “Last Mile to Impact” workshop.
With the project entering its final year, the focus was very much on what comes next: the pilot activities planned for the coming months, the remaining steps towards validating the developed solutions, and the opportunities for exploiting project results beyond MICROORC’s lifetime.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to reflect collectively on the progress achieved, discuss remaining challenges and explore how to maximise the project’s long-term impact.
The programme also included a visit to RISE’s laboratories, offering further opportunities for technical exchange.
As we move into this final phase, our shared ambition remains clear: turning MICROORC’s research into practical solutions that contribute to safer food, longer shelf life and reduced food waste.
A big thank you to RISE for the warm welcome and excellent organisation, and to all partners for their active participation and contributions!
