The MICROORC project will be featured at the 39th EFFoST International Conference, taking place in Porto, Portugal, from 17–19 November 2025. The event is hosted by Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Faculty of Biotechnology.
Achieving food systems transformation is essential to safeguard both human and planetary health. EFFoST 2025 will bring together international experts to explore novel food sources, greener processing and packaging technologies, and the digital transformation of food systems. The conference provides an important platform for exchanging knowledge and advancing innovative solutions that can drive the shift towards more sustainable food systems.
MICROORC will contribute to the discussions with two scientific posters:
-
The role of the hygienic status of the process environment on shelf life of poultry meat – Solveig Langsrud, Birgitte Moen, Beatriz Nunes Silva, Paula Teixeira, Annette Fagerlund, Ingrid Måge, Sophie Marie Pursti, Merete Rusås Jensen, Solfrid Bjørkøy, Ina Lian
This work emphasizes the importance of environmental monitoring to predict product quality, supporting more stable shelf life and helping to reduce food waste. -
Microbial Contamination in a Chicken Slaughterhouse: Insights from Sampling Throughout Production – Beatriz Nunes Silva, Birgitte Moen, Merete Rusås Jensen, Solveig Langsrud, Paula Teixeira
This study highlights the large variability in microbial load at specific points along the production chain and provides suggestions for improvement in slaughterhouse practices.
Through these contributions, MICROORC will showcase how predictive tools, microbial insights, and improved hygiene monitoring can play a crucial role in extending shelf life, enhancing food safety, and reducing food waste.
